* 부활절(Easter)의 유래
원래 북유럽 토속신앙에서 유래함. 기독교가 유럽에 전파되기
전에 북유럽인들은 봄과 일출의 여신인 Eostre를 섬겼다고 한다.
매년 봄에 그들은 새생명이 깨어나는 것을 축하하기 위해 이 에
오스트레 축제를 열었는데 나중에 기독교가 전파되고 난 다음에
태양이 솟아오르는 것과 그리스도의 부활을 연결시켜서 부활절
을 Easter라고 부르게 되었다고 한다.
# 부활절의 유래와 풍습 - 부활과 십자가 사건을 중심으로
- 예수가 십자가에 못박히기 전날에 제자들과 최후의 만찬을 열
었다. 이날은 유대교 최고의 명절인 유월절이기도 하였다. 그래
서 초기의 기독교인들은 유월절에 부활절을 축하하였다. 그러나
이들은 유월절은 일요일에 해당되지 않았기 때문에 불만이 있어
서 얼마동안은 제각기 다른날에 부활절을 지내곤 하였다.
A.D.325년에 교회의 지도자들이 천문학자들의 도움을 받아 부활
절을 확정하게 된다. 그들은 춘분이 지나 첫 보름의 다음 일요

- 부활절 토끼 :(Easter Bunny) 토끼 역시 다산하는 동물이기
때문에 새 생명의 상징으로 여겨왔다. 오늘날 어린이들은 토끼
모양의 사탕을 먹으면서 부활절 바구니(Easter Basket)에 부활
절 계란(Easter Egg)를 담아온다.

이러한 부문의 기사에서 그냥 보면 지나치기 쉬우나 (likely to
overlook) 신경 써서 보아두어야 할 부분은 물가의 변동을
설명하면서 짚고 넘어가는 산업의 각 부문에 대한 영문 표현입니다.
예컨대 예문에서 등장하고 있는 daily commodities라든가 public
utility와 같은 것들은 그대로 외워 사용할 수 있는 것들입니다.

영어로 표현해야 될 필요가 있을 때는 좀처럼 쉽게 생각나지 않는
것들이므로 주의를 기울이시기 바랍니다.
예문에서 등장하고 있는 표현 몇 가지를 살펴 보면 우선
spiraling이 나오고 있는 것을 알 수 있는데 spiral은 소용돌이
또는 소용돌이 치는 모양을 나타내는 단어로서 물가를 설명하는데
사용된다면 이는 급상승(강하)하는 것을 묘사하는 데 사용되는

표현한 것이므로 단어 뜻만 알아 두면 됩니다.

유용한 표현이므로 몇 번 써보고 기억해 두시기 바랍니다.

등장하는 stir concern about은 ~에 대한 우려를 부추기다, 불러

하나입니다.

plastic surgery의 종류도 우리나라에서 가장 흔히 시행되고 있는
쌍꺼풀은 double eyelids이라고 합니다.
그래서 그여자는 쌍꺼풀 수술을 했다고 하면 She had cosmetic
surgery done on her eyes. 라고 합니다. 또는 간단하게 She had her
eyes done. 이라고도 얘기하구요. 그 다음에 nose job은 코뼈를 세우
는 것인데 She had her nose done. 이라고 하면 그 여자는 코뼈를 세
우는 수술을 했다는 말입니다. 그 다음에 face lift는 얼굴에 주름살
을 펴는 수술이 되구요. 그 다음에 breast implant는 가슴이 작아서
커보이게 하기 위해서, 혹은 유방암으로 가슴을 제거한 다음에 수술공
간에 실리콘 같은 것을 집어넣어서 가슴의 빈공간은 메우는 것을 말하
고요. 그 다음에 breast reduction 이라고 하는 것은 가슴이 지나치게
