Call option: 콜 옵션
주식, 사채 등 특정자산을 정해진 기간내 또는 정해진 일시에 일정한
행사가격으로 매수할 수 있는 권리. 이는 put option의 상반 개념으로
call option 매입자는 call option 매도자로부터 call option 만기일 또는
만기일 이전에 자산을 매입할 수 있는 권리를 갖게 되며, 대신 그 매입자는
option 매도자에게 그 대가인 premium을 지급한다.
반면 call option 매입자는 현재가격이 행사가격보다 높은 경우
매입 권리를 행사하여 대상자산을 매입하게 되며 현재가격이
행사가격보다 낮을 경우 매입 권리를 포기하고 시장가격에 의해
대상자산을 매입한다. 따라서 call option 거래의 손익은 행사가격,
현재가격 및 premium에 의해 결정된다. 예를 들어 option 매도자의
손익은 현재가격이 행사가격보다 낮을 경우 매입자가 권리행사를
포기하게 되므로 이미 지불 받은 premium만큼 이익이 발생하지만
현재가격이 행사가격보다 높을 경우에는 가격수준에 관계없이
기초자산을 행사가격으로 인도해야 하므로 가격상승 정도에 따라
큰 손실을 감수해야 한다.
참고로 put option이란 시장가격에 관계없이 특정 상품을 정해진 가격에
매도할 수 있는 권리로 그 가격은 매입당시의 시장가치인 본질적 가치에
premium을 덧붙인 금액으로 결정된다.
