* on sale이라고 하면 '할인판매'와 '판매 중'이란 말
둘 다 통용이 되는데 Something is always on sale at our store라
하면 '우리 상점에서는 항상 무엇인가 세일을 하고 있습니다'란
말이 되고 The March issue of Reader's Digest is on sale now라고
하면 '리더스 다이제스트 3월호가 나와 지금 판매중이다'란 말이 된다.
따라서 전후 문맥을 따져 봐서 on sale의 뜻을 바로 알아차려야 한다.
for sale은 '팔려고 내놓은'이란 뜻이다. This house is for sale은
'이 집은 팔려고 내놓은 집이다'는 말이다. 자동차나 어떤 상품에
FOR SALE 이라고 써 붙여 놓으면 '판매용'이란 의미로 받아들이면 된다.
