Nearly 50 military personnel were killed in landslides triggered by
heavy rains that pounded the central part of the peninsula Friday. They
were neither engaged in a military operation nor on a field exercise. The
young lives would not have been sacrificed if military commanders paid
a little more attention to the safety of their men.

에 따르면 개는 폭우를 동반한 돌풍을 그리고 고양이는 비를 상징한다
고 하지요. 억수로 내리는 비를 인간과 친숙한 개와 고양이로 비유해
서 재미있게 표현한 'It is rainning cats and dogs'는 격식을 차리는
자리에서는 표현을 삼가하는게 좋고 그대신 정식으로 표현하자고 하면
It's rainning very heavily. 라고 얘기하는 것이 좋겠지요. 또 어떤
분들은 rain cats and dogs를 개나 고양이가 싸우는 것에 비유해서 서
로 으르렁 거리는 것에 비유해서 비가 많이 내린 것을 표현할 때 이렇
게 표현한다고 이야기하는 사람도 있습니다.
