Manager : Jack Cohen and Bill Greenfield have been friends since they were in high school.
In 1977, they decided to start an ice cream business together.
They took a $5 course to learn how to make ice cream.
Then, they opened their first ice cream shop, Jack ＆ Bill's, in New York.
Reporter : What made Jack ＆ Bill's such a big success?
Manager : Jack and Bill figured out the secret to making great ice cream.
They started with fresh milk and cream and added lots of natural flavorings, lots of fresh fruits, and lots of imagination.
To get people to try their product, Jack and Bill gave out free samples of ice cream everywhere they went.
Their plan worked.

ed.)는 "a written record of business done, suggestions made,
decisions taken, etc.… at a meeting"이라고 정의하지만
비즈니스의 세계에서는 자주 등장하는 말입니다. Draw up은
「초안·원안을 만들다」의 의미로 draw up a plan, draw up a
contract는 흔히 볼 수 있는 표현입니다.

discussion. Are you not familiar with them?
Mr. Lee: Well, in Korea too, we take records when the meeting
is about some very important issues.
Mr. West: It is customary in our country to prepare minutes
and sign them.

알아둘 일
구미식의 의논이나 교섭에서는 그 주요한 내용을 기록하는데,
동의한 사실, 동의하지 않는 사실. 계속 검토 중인 사항 등을
간단한 용지에 각 조항별로 써서 양측의 출석자가 사인하고 그
복사본을 보관합니다. 이것이 계속 모아지면 계약서가 되는
것입니다. 말했다, 말하지 않았다 식의 결말이 나지 않는 논쟁을
방지함과 동시에 말한 내용에 대한 책임 소재를 명확하게 한다는
의미가 있어서 분쟁의 발생을 방지할 수가 있습니다.
