private eye(= private detective) : (미 俗語) 사설탐정
-> 발음을 해보면 알파벳 I 와 발음이 같으므로 대신 쓴 것
입니다. 이 eye 라고 하는 말이 탐정의 의미를 가지게 된
것은 1850년에 시카고에서 세계 최초의 사립탐정 사무소를
창설한 알란 핀카튼이란 사람이 "사람의 눈"이라고 하는
것을 자신들이 사무실을 내면서 상징으로 삼았고 그래서
여기서 eye라고 하는 말이 사설탐정을 대신하는 의미로
많이 쓰이게 되었답니다.

For people who are looking for fun and adventure, there is the Mystery
Express, which runs from New York to Montreal, Canada. This trip
interests people who love Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Miss
Marple. It's for people who have always secretly dreamed of being a
private eye and solving mysteries. The passengers on board have the
opportunity to solve a murder mystery right there on the train. In the
middle of the night, for instance, there might be a gunshot; soon
everyone learns that there has been a “murder,” and they spend the
rest of the trip playing detective. They track down clues, exchange this
information and their opinions, and solve the whodunit by the time the
train has pulled into Mon- treal. Of course, no real crime takes place.
The “murderer” and several pas- sengers are actually actors. The trip
is a very creative weekend game.

◆ event, accident, incident, happening
accident 뜻하지 않게 우연히 발생한 사고를 뜻함
Five people have been killed in a climbing accident in Nepal.
(네팔에서 발생한 등반 사고로 5명이 목숨을 잃었다.)
George has had an accident at work and has been taken to the hospital.
(죠지가 작업중에 사고를 당해서 병원으로 실려 갔다.)
incident 중대 사건으로 발전할 가능성이 있는 사건, 또는 미리 계획, 의도된 사건을 가리킨다.
There are reportedly two or three hijacking incidents a year in Muslim countries.
(보도에 의하면, 이슬람 국가에서는 매년 두 세 건의 비행기 납치사건이 발생한다고 한다.)

◆ catch ; capture, trap, snare, entrap, ensnare
catch: 움직이고 있는 것, 또는 날고 있거나, 숨어있는 어떤 것을 획득하다는 뜻을 내포하고 있습니다.
He caught the pick-pocket.

I managed to catch the glass before it hit the ground.
