chip이 들어간 몇 가지 표현을 알아보면
낡은 덩어리에서 떨어진 chip off the old block은 아버지를 꼭 닮은 아들.

얼마나 화가 나겠어요.
그래서 have a chip on one's shoulder는 '화가 나다, 살기가 등등하다'입니다.
도박(gamble)에서 쓰는 chip 중에서 blue chip은 좋은 거라나요
그래서 주식시장(stock market)에서 우량주를 나타냅니다.
'chip in'은 하고 있는 말을 중간에 깨고 들어오는 거니까 '말참견하다'는 의미가 있죠.
또, 돈을 각자 조금씩 깨어 넣는다는 의미에서 '기부하다'는 의미도 있습니다.
