The mood of Clinton's visit has been tainted by congressional
investigations of alleged campaign contributions from China
and whether America's national security was jeopardized by
China's launching of U.S.-made communications satellites from
Loral Space and Communications.

Lawyers say they will file a class-action suit against Microsoft on
Monday on behalf of millions of Californians, in the first of what legal
experts say could become a flood of private litigation springing from
the Justice Department's antitrust action against the company.

22일 캘리포니아주 고등법원(California Superior Court)에 처음으로

Reducing the financial risk from such litigation, according to legal

out-of-court settlement in the government case. The chances of a
settlement appeared to increase last Friday when Jackson appointed
Richard A. Posner, a federal appeals court judge and leading antitrust
scholar, as mediator in settlement talks between Microsoft and the
Justice Department and the states.

details. In asserting that consumers may have paid more for Windows than
they would have in a competitive market, he cited a Microsoft study

Windows 98. Microsoft chose to charge $89, which the study identified as
the "revenue maximizing" price.

More good news about crime. Not only was violent crime
down last year, it was the biggest one-year drop in 26 years.
Ed Donahue reports the government thinks the numbers
can go even lower. --- Attorney General Janet Reno says
the numbers on violent crime are heartening but more work
needs to be done. Criminology experts say among the reasons
for the drop in violent crime are a healthy economy
which produces jobs, anti-gun campaigns, crime prevention
aimed at young people, and the aging of baby boomers
past their crime-prone years. The Justice Department
says violent crime was down 10.4 % last year.
