이와 같이 place가 쓰인 것은 앞에서 말씀 드린 to present
before ~ for의 경우에 해당되는 것으로서 구체적으로 보면 He
presented an order before the broker to buy 100 Samsung
common stocks 와 같이 됩니다. 주문을 낸다는 말을 place an
order라 하는 만큼 발주 그 자체는 order placing이라 합니다.
한 가지 주의해야 될 것은 place an order를 사용하는 경우에
make an order를 사용할 수는 있지만 그 반대의 경우는
어색하다는 것입니다. 다시 말해 He made an order to his
subordinate not to be late any more. (그는 부하 직원에게 더
이상 늦지 않도록 주의하라는 명령을 내렸다.)에서 made를
placed로 바꾸어 쓰는 데는 무리가 있습니다. 따라서 기억하기
쉽게 place an order / order placing은 투자 부문에서 사용되는
용어로 별도로 분류해 생각하는 편이 좋습니다.

음력 8월 15일은 한국의 가장 큰 명절 중의 하나인 추석입니다.
올해는 9월 27일이 추석인데 그 날 여러분은 다양한 형태의
매체를 통해서 추석과 관련된 많은 것들을 알게 될 것입니다.
Ch'usok is also called Chungch'ujol. This literally means
"midautumn" day.
추석은 '중추절'이라고도 불리는데 이는 '가을의 한가운데 날'
이라는 뜻이지요.
Ch'usok is a period where separated family members gather
to discuss their lives while enjoying the newly harvested
grains and fruits.
추석에는 흩어져 살던 가족들이 모두 한자리에 모요 각자의
생활에 대해서 얘기하면 새로이 수확한 곡식들과 과일들을
즐깁니다.
The most important activity done at Ch'usok is to give
thanks to ancestors and also to give thanks to Mother nature
for providing a bountiful harvest.
그러나 추석날 하는 가장 중요한 일은 조상님들과 풍요로운
곡식을 수확할 수 있게 한 자연에 감사를 표하는 일이지요.
After changing into the hanbok, the family busily prepare
dishes with the newly harvested grain. Then this is offered
to the ancestors as a way of saying thank you. This rite is
called ch'arye.
추석에는 온 가족이 한국의 전통 의상인 한복으로 갈아입고
새로이 거두어들인 곡식으로 분주히 여러 가지 음식을 차려
놓은 다음 조상에게 경의를 표하는 의식인 '차례'를 지내지요.
When offering ch'arye, You will always find certain kinds of
food such as: kimch'i, meat, fish, walnuts, persimmons, dates,
pears, apples. And Ch'usok would not be completed without
songp'yon. To those who are not familiar with this dish, it
is half-moon shaped and filled with stuffing made from
sesame seed and sugar. The dish is always steamed on top
of pine needles.
차례를 지낼 때 오르는 음식은 김치, 고기, 생선, 호두, 감, 대추,
배, 사과 그리고 추석의 대표적인 음식인 송편을 빼 놓을 수 없
습니다. 송편을 잘 모르시는 분들을 위해 설명을 드리면 송편은
반달 모양처럼 생긴 떡으로 떡 안에는 깨와 설탕이 들어 있습

After the ch'arye, all the family members gather to go to the
graves of their ancestors. They go there to pay their
respects and afterwards they clear up the surrounding area
by pulling weeds.

There are many games and dances associated with Ch'usok,
and in the past these activities where done in a communal
setting.
추석과 관련된 여러 가지 게임이나 춤들이 있는데 과거에는 이
러한 활동들이 이웃간의 공동 활동으로 행해졌습니다.
The most famous activity of Ch'usok is kanggangsuwollae
which is a combination of a song and dance where people
hold hands and spin to the rhythm of the songs. In one sense,
it can be compared to square dancing.
추석의 가장 대표적인 놀이에 '강강수월래'라는 춤이 있는데 이
것은 노래를 부르면서 그 노래의 리듬에 맞추어 사람들끼리 손
을 잡고 원을 그리면서 추는 춤이지요. 어떤 면으로는 미국의

오늘은 장고에 대해서 알아 보도록 하겠습니다.
장고 is a drum that is shaped like an hourglass and is the chief
percussion instrument of Korea.
장고는 두 개의 머리를 가진 모래 시계 같은 모양을 하고 있는 우리나
라의 대표적인 타악기 입니다.
The name is derived from the words '장'and '고'or stick and drum.
장고라는 이름은 막대기를 뜻하는 '장'과 북을 의미하는 '고'가 합쳐
져서 장고라고 합니다.
It is roughly between 40 and 60 centimeters in length and about
20 to 30 centimeters in diameter.
장고는 길이가 약 40~60 센티미터 정도 되고 또 북머리의 지름은 약
20~30 센티미터 정도 입니다.
It is carved from paulownia wood and this hourglass shaped instr-
ument is entirely hollow.
장고는 오동 나무를 깎아서 만들고 모래시계 모양의 악기의 속은 텅텅
비어 있습니다.
Teh two circular heads of the drum are covered with animal skin
and the heads are laced to each other with cords that zig zag
tween the two areas.
장고의 둥근 두 개의 머리는 동물 가족으로 덮혀 있고 두 표면 사이에
지그 재그 모양으로 실로 엮어 있지요.
These cords can be manipulated by a leather strap to adjust the
head tension and it is the amount of tension which controls the
tone of the drum beat.
가죽을 묶고 있는 이 실은 장고의 머리 팽창을 맞추기 위해서 가죽 끈
으로 조절할 수 있는데 그렇게 함으로써 장단의 음색에 영향을 주게됩
니다.
The drum heads are believed to have been originally made of hors-
eskin. The skin is stretched thin on the right thick on the left.
장구의 머리 부분은 원래 말가죽으로 만들었고 오른 쪽은 얇게 왼쪽은
두Т게 잡아 늘인 것 입니다.
Today the right drum head is made of dog skin or sheep skin while
the left is made of cowhide.
오늘날은 이 장고의 머리는 개나 양 가죽으로 만들고 왼쪽은 소 가죽
으로 만듭니다.
장고is usually placed horizontally in front of the seated drummer
on the floor.
장고는 주로 마루에 앉아 있는 고수의 앞에 수평으로 놓이게 됩니다.
The left drum head is struck by the palm of the left hand while
the right side is struck with a bamboo stick.
장고의 왼쪽 북머리는 왼손바닥으로 치는 반면에 오른 쪽 북머리는 대
나무 채로 칩니다.
The palm of a hand produces a deep soft and hollow sound while
the bamboo stick achieves a sharp stinging and hard sound.
그렇게 해서 손바닥으로 치면 깊고 부드러우면서 공명한 소리를 내고
대나무로 만든 채로 치면 날카롭고 예리하고 딱딱한 소리를 내게 되죠
This instrument is used to privide a stable rhythmic beat and
tempo for other instruments and performers.
이 악기는 다른 악기나 연주자들을 위해서 안정 되고 리듬감있는 장단
과 박자를 만들어 주는데 쓰입니다.
This instruments goes back a long way in history.
이 악기는 역사적으로 오래 거슬러 올라갑니다.
It appeared as early as around 37 B.C. - 668 A.D. during the 고구
려 period.
장고는 서기 전 37년에서부터 서기 668년 경에 고구려 시대에서 그 모
습을 처음 보였습니다.
They are portrayed in many paintings and in artifacts from the신라
period of 57 B.C.- 935 A.D.
B.C. 57년에서 A.D. 935년 사이에 신라 시대의 미술품과 공예품의 등장

장고 is still very common in Korean folk music.
장고는 여전히 한국의 민속 음악에서 흔히 볼 수가 있습니다.
제2조 (정의) 이 법에서 사용하는 용어의 정의는 다음과 같다.
Article 2 (Definition)
For the purpose of this Act, the definition of terms shall be as follow:
1. "사법공조"라 함은 재판상 서류의 송달 또는 증거조사에 관한
국내절차의외국에서의 수행 또는 외국절차의 국내에서의 수행을 위하여 행하는
법원 기타공무소 등의 협조를 말한다.
1. the term "judicial cooperation" means any cooperation made by a court,
other public office, etc. for carrying out in a foreign country domestic
formalities on service of documents or examination of evidence in a trial,
or for carrying out in Korea the foreign formalities thereon;
2. "외국으로의 촉탁"이라 함은 대한민국 법원이 외국법원 기타 공무소 또는
외국에주재하는 대한민국의 대사·공사 또는 영사에 대하여 하는 사법공조촉탁을
말한다.
2. the term "entrustment to a foreign country" means an entrustment of
judicial cooperation made by a court of the Republic of Korea to a foreign
court or other public office, or the ambassador, minister or consul of the
Republic of Korea to the foreign country; and
3. "외국으로부터의 촉탁"이라 함은 외국법원이 대한민국의 법원에 대하여
하는사법공조촉탁을 말한다.
3. the term "entrustment by a foreign country" means an entrustment of
judicial cooperation made by a foreign court to a court of the Republic of
Korea.
제2장 외국으로의 촉탁
CHAPTER II ENTRUSTMENT TO FOREIGN COUNTRY
제5조 (촉탁의 상대방) ①외국으로의 촉탁은 수소법원의 재판장이 그 외국의
관할법원 기타 공무소에 대하여 한다.
②수소법원의 재판장은 다음 각호에 따라 외국으로의 촉탁을 할 수 있다.
Article 5 (Other Party of Entrustment)
(1) Any entrustment to a foreign country shall be made by the presiding
judge of the court which has accepted the lawsuit, to the competent court
or other public office of the foreign country.
(2) The presiding judge of the court which has accepted a lawsuit, may make
an entrustment to a foreign country by the following subparagraphs:
1. 송달받을 자 또는 증인신문을 받을 자가 대한민국 국민으로서
영사관계에관한비엔나협약에 가입한 외국에 거주하는 경우에는 그 외국에
주재하는대한민국의 대사·공사 또는 영사에 대하여 한다. 이 경우 그 외국의 법령
또는의사표시에 위배되지 아니하여야 한다.
2. 외국이 명백한 의사표시로써 승인하는 경우에는 그 의사표시에 따른
실시기관에 대하여 한다.
1.If the person to whom the service is to be made, or who is to undergo an
inquiry, is a national of the Republic of Korea, and resides in a foreign
country which is a member of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations,
the entrustment shall be made to the ambassador, minister or consul of the
Republic of Korea in the foreign country. In this case, it shall not be
contrary to the statute or the declaration of intention of the foreign
country; and
2.If the foreign country approves it by an obvious declaration of its
intention, the entrustment shall be made to the agency implementing such
declaration of intention.
제8조 (대사등에 의한 송달방법) 외국에 주재하는 대한민국의 대사·공사 또는
영사가 이 법에 의한 송달을 실시하는 경우에는 송달받을 자에게 송달서류를
직접 교부하거나송달받을 자에 대한 배달사실을 증명할 수 있는 우편의 방법에
의하여야 한다.
Article 8 (Method of Service through Ambassador, etc.)
In a case where service as prescribed in this Act is made by the
ambassador, minister or consul of the Republic of Korea in a foreign
country, the documents to be served shall be delivered directly to the
person who is to be served, or it shall be served through the mail service
to attest the fact that the delivery thereof has been made.
제10조 (공시송달) ①외국에서 할 송달에 대한 공시송달은
법원서기관·법원사무관· 법원주사 또는 법원주사보가 송달할 서류를 보관하고 그
사유를 법원게시판에 게시함과 아울러 그 외국에 주재하는 대한민국의 대사·공사
또는 영사에게통지하여야 한다.
Article 10 (Service by Public Notice)
(1) In a case where service to be made in a foreign country is made by
public notice, the court official of Grade IV, V, VI or VII shall keep the
documents to be served, and put up a notice and the reasons thereof on the
court billboard, and at the same time notify it to the ambassador, minister
or consul of the Republic of Korea in t
제12조 (공조의 요건) 외국으로부터의 촉탁에 대한 사법공조는 그 촉탁이 다음
각호의 요건을 갖춘 경우에 한하여 이를 할 수 있다.
Article 12 (Requirements for Mutual Cooperation)
Any judicial cooperation with respect to an entrustment by a foreign
country may be given only when it conforms to the following subparagraphs'
requirements:
1. 촉탁법원이 속하는 국가와 사법공조조약이 체결되어 있거나 제4조의 규정에
의한 보증이 있을 것
1. That a judicial cooperation treaty is concluded with the country to
which the entrusting court belongs, or there is a guarantee as provided in
Article 4;
2. 대한민국의 안녕질서와 미풍양속을 해할 우려가 없을 것
2. That it will not be detrimental to public peace and order and good
public morals in the Republic of Korea;
3. 촉탁이 외교상의 경로를 거칠 것
3. That the entrustment is made through diplomatic channel;
4. 송달촉탁은 송달받을 자의 성명·국적·주소 또는 거소를 기재한 서면에 의할
것
4. That the entrustment of service is made in writing specifying the name,
nationality, address or residence of the person to be served;
5. 증거조사촉탁은 소송사건의 당사자, 사건의 요지, 증거방법의 종류,
증인신문의 경우에는 신문받을 자의 성명·국적·주소 또는 거소와 신문사항을
기재한 서면에의할 것
5. That the entrustment of evidence examination is made in writing
specifying the party, summary of case, methods of evidence, or the name,
nationality, address or residence of the person to be inquired and matters
to be inquired, in a case of witness inquiry;
6. 국어로 작성된 번역문이 첨부되어 있을 것
6. That a translation in the Korean language is appended; and
7. 촉탁법원이 속하는 국가가 수탁사항의 실시에 필요한 비용의 부담을 보증할
것
7. That the country to which the entrusting court belongs, guarantees the
payment of expenses needed for implementing the entrusted matters.
제15조 (준거법) 외국으로부터의 촉탁에 따른 수탁사항은 대한민국의 법률에
의하여 이를 실시한다. 다만, 외국법원이 특정방식에 의한 실시를 요청하는 경우
그 방식이대한민국의 법률에 저촉되지 아니하는 때에는 그 방식에 의한다.
Article 15 (Proper Law)
The matters entrusted by a foreign country shall be implemented in
conformity with the laws of the Republic of Korea : Provided, That in a
case where the foreign court requests to implement it through a specified
way, if such a way is not contrary to any law of the Republic of Korea, the
implementation shall be made in such a way.
제16조 (결과의 회신) ①외국으로부터의 촉탁이 송달촉탁의 경우에는
수탁법원의장이 송달결과에 관한 증명서를, 증거조사촉탁의 경우에는 수탁판사가
증인신문조서기타 증거조사의 결과를 기재한 조서 또는 증거조사가 불능하게 된
사유를 기재한서면을 각각 외국법원에 송부하여야 한다. 다만, 외국법원이
특정방식에 의한 회신을 요청하는 경우 그 방식이 대한민국의 법률에 저촉되지
아니하는 때에는 그 방식에의한다.
Article 16 (Reply on Result)
(1) If an entrustment made by a foreign country is one pertaining to
service, the head of the court which has accepted the entrustment, shall
send to the foreign court a certificate on the result of the service, and
if it concerns an entrustment pertaining to an examination on evidence, the
judge who has accepted the entrustment shall send to the foreign court, a
protocol specifying the inquiry of witness or the result of other
examinations on evidence, or a certificate specifying the reason why the
examination on evidence was impossible, respectively: Provided, That in a
case where the foreign court requests a reply made in a specified way, if
the way is not contrary to any law of the Republic of Korea, it shall be
made in such a way.
②제6조의 규정은 제1항의 규정에 의하여 서류를 송부하는 경우에 이를
준용한다.
(2) The provisions of Article 6 shall apply mutatis mutandis to a case
where the documents are sent under paragraph (1).

South Korean President Kim Dae-jung won this year's Nobel Peace Prize Friday.
김대중 대통령이 올해 노벨 평화상 수상자로 선정됐다.
Kim became the first Korean to receive the coveted Nobel Prize.
한국인으로 노벨상을 받는 것은 김 대통령이 처음이다.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Kim was chosen as the
Nobel Prize awardee for his ``work for democracy and human rights
in South Korea and in East Asia in general, and for peace and
reconciliation with North Korea in particular.''
노르웨이 노벨상 위원회는 13일 김 대통령이 북한과의 한반도 평화와
화해를 이뤄내고 한국과 아시아의 민주주의와 인권 상황을 개선한
공로로 올해 노벨 평화상 수상자로 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
``Through his 'sunshine policy', Kim Dae-jung has attempted to
overcome more than 50 years of war and hostility between North
and South Korea,'' the committee said.

The committee, apparently conscious of North Korean leader
Kim Jong-il, said it wanted to ``express recognition of the

former Russian Prime Minister Victor Chernomirdin and the Salvation Army.

In their letter to Hyundai, creditors abstained from mentioning
