(ANS) Many nations have harvest festivals and Thanksgiving days, while many other cultures observe the veneration of ancestors, but no one has anything quite like the Korean Chusok. Historians tell us that the Chusok festival originated during the reign of the third king of the Silla Kingdom nearly 2,000 years ago. Chusok involves many things. It is an offering of thanks to heaven for the harvest, an appeal for the good fortune of another harvest in the next year, and an offering of sacrifices to one's family ancestors for all they did for the clan and family. In addition, of course, there are family gathering, much hearty eating, and such activities as the circle dance in the light of the full harvest moon.

요일로 지정하지 않는 경우 토요일, 일요일과 겹치게 되더라
도 앞당기거나 늦춰서 조정한다. 이땐 달력엔 예전과 다르게
기념된다 하여 Reserved, Observed라는 말을 붙여 표시한다.
예로 President Day, Washington's Birthday가 일요일과 겹
치면 달력엔 그 임시일을 위 용어로 표기하게 된다.
그러나 꼭 월요일이 공휴일이 지정되는 것은 아니다.

This is to formally invite you to the reception which I have already
mentioned to you informally. The reception will be held in the "Palace
Garden" the New Town Hotel from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Friday, November
23. The day was chosen to match the theme of the gathering, i.e.,
"thanksgiving." It was also chosen so as to permit busy people to
attend without interfering with business schedules.
